FYCD Catalog
We're proud of our catalog and believe that it represents the widest and most useful selection of music encoding and related services
available today. While browsing the catalog please remember that there are several ways for you to purchase these options - see our
price list for more details.
Basic Encoding
This service forms the basis for everything we do - the remaining services on this page represent additions that you can add to this service.
We take your collection of original music CDs and encode them in the format of your choice (MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg-Vorbis) at up to 224kbps. During
the encoding process we also perform jitter correction which enables us to correct minor flaws in the disc
that might cause audio CD players to "skip" or "crackle". We return your original CD collection to you along with the digitally encoded
music files on the media of your choice (CD-R, DVD-R or DVD+R - see choosing the right media for details). We
will organize the files on the discs either by genre, artist and album or just artist and album. We provide the two organizational choices
because genre classification is too subjective to be able to guarantee satisfaction (see a discussion of genres
for details)
Premium Encoding
Premium encoding allows you to specify a bit rate of between 225kbps and 320kbps which results in a higher quality but larger music file.
We charge a per music CD price increase for this service because these files take longer to produce and consume more space on your chosen
media. For more details see: a discussion of bit rates.
Lossless Encoding
FYCD can encode your original audio CDs using one of many lossless formats (WAV, WMA Lossless, Apple Lossless, FLAC). This gives you music
files that are of the exact same quality as the original. However, these files are much larger and take much longer for us to process which
is why we charge an additional per music CD price. Because of the size of files generated this service is only available if you choose
DVD media. The discussion on bit rates describes why you might want to consider this format.
Additional Format
FYCD allows you to specify up to 4 format/bit rate combinations for your original collection. Because each encoding takes extra time to
process we charge a small fee for each additional encoding (the first encoding is included in the base price).
As of the time of this writing no other encoding service providers offer this flexibility.
Additional Media
For a small charge FYCD will provide you an additional set of media - this service allows you to either ensure one set of media can remain unused and hence
undamaged (but also check out our unique backup service) or to keep a set of music files at more than one location (e.g.
home and office). This additional set of media can be a different medium (CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R) but must use the same file organization.
As of the time of this writing no other encoding service providers offer this flexibility.
Music Box Binder and Catalog
The basic encoding service includes a report on all CDs processed and/or corrected. For an additional fee FYCD will compile a catalog of
your CD collection and return one set of media and the catalog in our attractive Music Box Binder.
Resurfacing CDs
At your request FYCD can resurface any scratched CDs. We use the Skip Dr Pro CD repair device and belive it gives us the
best results for repairing CDs. However, before selecting this service please consider the following:
- This is an invasive process - it actually removes a layer of the clear laminate of the CD. This is a popular method for reviving otherwise
unplayable CDs but FYCD is unable to guarantee the results.
- This is not a miracle cure - some CDs will be too badly damaged to restore. Please review our terms of
service for our policy on unreadable discs.
- If you choose this option we will resurface the first three CDs for free. After that we charge a per CD cost. We do this because we'd
really rather not have to resurface any CDs. Why? Because:
- It opens up the chance of dissappointing you if the CD is beyond repair
- It creates a variable cost for you and us because we don't know how many CDs we will have to resurface
- It really, really, really slows down our batch processing systems.
Because of this FYCD reserves the right to not resurface any more than 10% of the number of CDs provided to us.
- If you choose this option we will only resurface those CDs that we can not read using only jitter
correction.
Priority Service
Our priority service is just like the high speed check in for those fortunate to be travelling first class or business class (at FYCD we
always travel coach!). If you wish to receive your encoded music as fast as possible then select this option - during the checkout process
we will ask you to specify a date when you can get your CDs to us and then, based on our current schedule we will tell you a date we
guarantee to have the encoding performed by and given to the carrier for return shipping (we don't guarantee shipment times - you can
adjust those by what shipping option you choose). If we don't deliver on our guarantee we will refund you twice the amount you paid for
the service. During the checkout process if you don't like the date we propose you can always deselect this option.
As of the time of this writing no other encoding service providers offer this flexibility.
Backup Service
For a modest setup fee FYCD will retain an encrypted, secure copy of your music collection and issue you a password so that only you
can access that music (we must provide this security to ensure that we remain in compliance of copyright laws). If ever you damage or lose a
CD for just $2 we will provide you with a replacement. The replacement will consist of two CD-Rs: the first will be an audio CD that you can
play in any audio CD player that accepts CD-R media (most do) and the second will contain the music encoded in the formats you originally
requested. During the process of requesting a replacement CD we will ask you to confirm that you are still the owner of the original. If
you lose your password we will ask for certain identifying information before reseting the password for your music.
As of the time of this writing no other encoding service providers offer this flexibility.
DIY Service
With our DIY service FYCD will encode your audio CDs to WAV and provide you with software to transcode
those files to the formats of your choice. This allows you to encode as many different versions of the files as you wish. When significant
improvements are made to encoders you will have the opportunity to purchase upgrades at a nominal fee. If new encoding standards
become available FYCD may choose to adopt these standards and if we do we will also provide you the opportunity to purchase these encoders for your own
non-commercial use.
